Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has on Wednesday spoken out on the mounting claims that he and Blancos star Vinícius Jr. are currently in a bad place relationship-wise.
The subject of the alleged tension between Alonso and Vinícius has of course dominated the headlines in Spain’s capital across the week to date.
This comes chiefly owing to a report released by The Athletic, which detailed that the latter is growing increasingly frustrated with his new manager.
Vinícius, in fact, is understood to have informed Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez that he does not intend to sign a new contract, unless the situation swiftly changes.
Faced by the press in the buildup to his side’s Champions League meeting with Olympiacos this evening, the subject of his rapport with the Brazilian was in turn put to Xabi Alonso himself once more.
And the Spanish tactician made use of the opportunity to assure:
“My relationship with Vini is very good. He is a key player for us, and when he’s happy and having fun, that’s always great for the team. There’s mutual trust between us, we talk before each game, he knows what I think, I know what he thinks.”
