Xabi Alonso admits Real Madrid could struggle against Barcelona

Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has admitted that his side could face ‘similar situations’ to those endured in their clashes with arch rivals Barcelona last season.

The Clásico was of course dominated by Hansi Flick’s Barca over the course of the 2024/25 campaign.

Across four meetings in all competitions, the Blaugrana emerged triumphant from all four, culminating in an eventual domestic treble.

The new season’s first meeting between Spanish football’s two biggest clubs has been pencilled in for tomorrow evening, at the Santiago Bernabéu.

On this occasion, Real Madrid will enter the matchup boasting the advantage in the La Liga table, sitting pretty two points clear of Barca in top spot.

Nevertheless concerned regarding the potential flow of Sunday’s outing, though, is Xabi Alonso.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference earlier today, Blancos headmaster Alonso did not exactly inspire confidence, in admitting:

“There could be similar situations tomorrow as last season. Our project is just starting.”
