Xabi Alonso admits he has ‘nothing to say’ to Real Madrid players after Liverpool defeat

Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has moved to defend his players, in the aftermath of just their 2nd defeat of the campaign on Tuesday.

Los Blancos are of course fresh off making the trip to Anfield yesterday evening, to lock horns with Premier League holders Liverpool in a Champions League clash.

When all was said and done, it was the latter who emerged on the right side of a 1-0 result, courtesy of a 2nd-half header on the part of Alexis Mac Allister.

Real Madrid were widely singled out for criticism for the level of their performance post-match, with only the brilliance of Thibaut Courtois having kept the Spanish table-toppers in contention for a point.

Xabi Alonso, however, is adamant that his squad were not lacking when it comes to the competitive side of the game at Anfield.

Drawn on Real Madrid’s latest performance in the aftermath of the full-time whistle on Merseyside, the Spanish tactician assured:

“Lack of intensity? No, I don’t think it was that. We competed well, it was a demanding game. Nothing to say to the team. We just lacked accuracy in the final third.”
