Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has admitted that he has been left taken aback by the talents of a member of the club’s summer recruitment drive.
The player in question? Álvaro Carreras.
Defender Carreras is for his part of course fresh off another stellar performance this past weekend.
Afforded a starting berth in Real Madrid’s La Liga meeting with Espanyol, the 22-year-old went on to shine from his berth at left-back.
As much added to what has been a spectacular start to life for Carreras all told back in Spain’s capital, since his summer arrival from Benfica.
And one individual who has certainly been left impressed by such exploits comes in the form of the aforementioned Xabi Alonso.
Speaking during a press conference ahead of his side’s upcoming meeting with Levante on Tuesday, Real Madrid’s headmaster was drawn on Carreras’ ongoing excellence.
And Alonso went on to admit:
“Álvaro Carreras? I’m surprised, very good. He’s been excellent.”
