Why Raúl Asencio was taken off at half-time in Real Madrid’s clash with Real Sociedad

An explanation for the early withdrawal of Real Madrid star Raúl Asencio from the club’s meeting with Real Sociedad has been forthcoming online.

Defender Asencio, for his part, was afforded his latest starting berth this evening, taking his place at right-back for Real’s trip to Anoeta.

The youngster went on to enjoy a solid first-half in the matchup, as Carlo Ancelotti’s visitors took the lead in the tie courtesy of a fine finish on the part of Endrick.

In turn, it came as a surprise when, upon the two teams reemerging on the far side of the interval, Asencio was nowhere to be seen.

The Spaniard was replaced by Lucas Vázquez, in a change which did not go down at all well with the Real Madrid faithful.

As alluded to above, though, an explanation for the alteration has since been provided.

The info comes courtesy of the reliable Guillermo Rai of The Athletic, who has confirmed:

‘According to club sources, it was agreed in advance that Asencio and Lucas would each play one half.’
