An insight into the reasoning behind Lucas Bergvall’s decision to reject the advances of La Liga giants Barcelona, in favour of signing for Tottenham, has today been provided.
The subject of Barca’s ultimately fruitless efforts to bring youngster Bergvall in have of course dominated the Spanish media headlines over the last 24 hours.
This comes after word was forthcoming that, despite weeks of negotiations, the Blaugrana had been beaten out for the Swede’s signature.
After the aforementioned Tottenham emerged as a late contender in the race for the 18-year-old, Barca were quickly usurped, before being officially beaten to the punch on Friday night.
So, what proved the deciding factor in Bergvall opting for a move to north London, over Catalunya?
Reports in the media over the last 24 hours have pointed towards money, the prospect of first-team football, and a whole host of other factors as having been part of the equation.
When drawn on the subject earlier today, however, the midfield sensation himself pointed towards an altogether more simple explanation – his desire to play in the Premier League.
“It’s always been my dream to play in the Premier League, the best league in the world.
“Tottenham is a big, big club,” Bergvall added, as cited by Fabrizio Romano.
