Why Hansi Flick gave 5 Barcelona stars the day off on Wednesday

Five leading members of the first-team ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona were afforded a day of rest by manager Hansi Flick on Wednesday.

This came in an effort to manage the workloads of the quintet in question.

Ongoings at the Ciutat Esportiva over the last 24 hours piqued widespread attentions amongst those of a Barcelona persuasion.

This came after word was forthcoming that all of Marcus Rashford, Frenkie de Jong, Jules Koundé and Pau Cubarsí were absent from group training.

At the time, it was unclear precisely why.

But as alluded to above, a day on, an insight into the situation has been provided.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, amid the ongoing injury problems in his squad, Hansi Flick is now making a conscious effort to ‘manage rest periods individually, and adjust workloads to each player’s needs’.

All of the aforementioned Rashford, De Jong, Koundé and Cubarsí were in turn advised to take a day of rest, to fully recover from last weekend’s El Clásico.

Pedri was also pencilled in for as much, before the midfielder’s latest round of medical tests revealed an injury which is expected to keep him out of action for an extended period.
