An insight into the reasoning behind the delay in Frenkie de Jong penning fresh terms with La Liga champions Barcelona has on Monday been forthcoming online.
Those behind the scenes at the Camp Nou have long been actively working towards tying midfielder De Jong down to a new contract.
This comes with the Dutchman fresh off something of a bounce-back campaign, which saw De Jong establish himself as an integral figure in new boss Hansi Flick’s midfield.
The former Ajax man, in turn, has been locked in talks with Deco and co. over extending their partnership for several months now.
De Jong is for his part eager to stay put, with sights only for Barcelona ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
So, why the delay?
As alluded to above, on Monday, an insight into as much has been forthcoming online.
As per a report from Diario Sport:
‘Everything is pending a personal matter, as president Laporta previously explained. It is none other than his disassociation from lifelong agent, Ali Dursun. This is about to happen definitively. When he achieves it, De Jong will sign with Barça with a new agent.’
