Why Barcelona will be closely watching the Copa Libertadores final

The brass at La Liga giants Barcelona will be keeping a watchful eye on the upcoming Copa Libertadores showdown between Palmeiras and Flamengo.

This comes owing to a clause included in the contract of ex-Blaugrana frontman Vitor Roque.

Youngster Roque of course brought a close to his forgettable stint in Catalunya’s capital earlier this year, returning to his home country of Brazil with heavyweights Palmeiras.

The 20-year-old has since gone on to enjoy a new lease of life in São Paulo, finding the net on a consistent basis and even tipped for a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for next year’s World Cup.

Roque’s latest contributions came this week, when Palmeiras recovered from a 3-0 first leg deficit to book their spot in the finale of the Copa Libertadores.

And as much will have come as music to the ears of those in the boardroom at Barcelona.

As per a report from Diario Sport, as part of the sale which sent Roque back to Brazil, the Blaugrana secured a clause entitling them to a €1 million payment in the case of Palmeiras winning the Copa.

The Verdão will face off against Flamengo in the tournament’s finale on November 29th.
