Why Barcelona might decide against signing Marcus Rashford

An insight into the reasoning behind Barcelona’s hesitance to make Marcus Rashford’s signing permanent has on Thursday come to the fore online.

This comes amid confirmation that more than one figure behind the scenes at the Camp Nou remains unconvinced by the merits of any such deal.

Frontman Rashford has of course enjoyed a largely impressive campaign to date in Catalunya’s capital.

Brought in as part of a season-long loan from Manchester United, the Englishman quickly took advantage of a personnel crisis in Hansi Flick’s squad to establish himself as a prominent player.

All told, Rashford has racked up 15 direct goal contributions across all competitions in Blaugrana colours.

Recent weeks, however, have seen the 28-year-old lose his starting status, following the return to fitness of Raphinha.

And with as much in mind, some of those in the Barca boardroom have begun to speak out against a prospective permanent deal for Rashford.

As per journalist Alfredo Martínez, during an interview with Diario Sport:

“The decision on whether or not to continue with Rashford has not yet been made. There are voices in favour and voices against, some because Rashford is not that footballer who presses. Then, he has a very high salary, maybe he has other concerns.”
