La Liga heavyweights Barcelona were this month forced to send one final payment the way of former attacker and club legend Lionel Messi.
That’s according to Diario Sport, citing Culemanía, who point towards as much as having come owing to deferred wage payments to the Argentine.
Messi of course brought a close to his stint in Barcelona colours back in the summer of 2021, after the financial crisis at the Camp Nou culminated in the Blaugrana withdrawing their contract renewal offer to the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.
Prior to as much, though, Messi, alongside a number of teammates, had agreed to defer a significant portion of his salary, to afford a helping hand to the club in their time of need.
In total, the veteran attacker was owed a whopping €47.6 million in deferred wages.
And just this month, those in the boardroom at the Camp Nou finally managed to cover the last portion of this payment.
As per a report from Sport:
‘FC Barcelona deferred 47.6 million euros from his salary and this June he was paid the last 5.96 million that were still in debt. Culemanía reports that, according to the Argentine’s entourage, Barça have duly fulfilled their commitments to date.’
