Why Aurélien Tchouaméni could start at centre-back for Real Madrid vs Valencia

Real Madrid star Aurélien Tchouaméni may be forced to drop into an unfavoured role in the heart of defence for his side’s trip to Valencia this weekend.

That’s according to Diario AS, who have this evening provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

The expectation in the buildup to Real’s trip to the Mestalla was that Nacho and Antonio Rüdiger were primed to make up the club’s central defensive pairing for the night.

However, on the eve of the clash, an alternative setup is understood to be on the mind of Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti.

As per the aforementioned AS, Nacho is suffering with unspecified ‘discomfort’, an ailment which has been plaguing the veteran defender for a number of weeks.

He could as a result be afforded a rest on Saturday, to build up fitness with a view to next week’s Champions League showdown with RB Leipzig.

And in his place would come Tchouaméni, who has of course thoroughly impressed when asked to fill in at centre-back over recent weeks.

The decision is far from made, but is labelled as a strong ‘option on Carletto’s mind’.
