Heartbreaking footage of Atlético Madrid star José Giménez has come to the fore online.
As much, of course, comes after Diego Simeone’s troops were sent packing from European competition on Tuesday night.
After making the trip to Germany for the 2nd leg of the club’s Champions League quarter-final tie with Borussia Dortmund, Atlético were ultimately condemned to the wrong side of a 4-2 result.
This culminated in a 5-4 aggregate defeat, with the Rojiblancos, as a result, facing up to another season without silverware.
And, as alluded to above, one member of Atléti’s ranks who was left looking utterly inconsolable on the back of the full-time whistle at Signal Iduna Park comes in the form of José Giménez.
Stopper Giménez, for his part, was afforded a starting berth at the heart of his side’s backline on Tuesday, seeing out all 90 minutes, too.
After Diego Simeone’s squad made their way to the club’s travelling fans to show their appreciation for their support post-match, the Uruguayan was the very last to leave the pitch.
This came with Giménez having evidently still been shellshocked, in issuing an apology for Atlético’s shortcomings on the night:
