In an interview that appeared on Marca, Vinícius Júnior reflected on Real Madrid’s Champions League campaign last season and what he still wants to achieve with the club.
The Brazilian forward scored the winner against Liverpool in the 2022 Champions League final that allowed Los Blancos to become the winners of the continent’s highest-level European club competition for the 14th time in their history.
However, Vinícius’ favourite moment of the competition wasn’t his goal in the final:
“My favourite moment was the game against City at the Bernabeu. In two minutes Rodrygo came on and scored two goals that took us to the final. The most important moment of the competition, I think, was that one.”
He believes that the winning mentality that the team has is a part of the Real Madrid identity:
“It’s right in the DNA of this club and this shirt: to always go out for the important games with players who know how to face these challenging days. That was the key last season. Some games were emotional rollercoasters where everything seemed to go our way.”
He also praised the work of Ancelotti in helping to lead the club to success:
“He knew how to get the best out of us. He is very kind and treats us like his children. He allows us to feel relaxed and gives us confidence. And then there’s his great work in preparing us for games.”
He also discussed what he wants to achieve in the future:
“I admire the players who have achieved so much at this club, the biggest in the world. Of course, I want to keep winning here and play for a long time to win as much as they have. I want to win five or six Champions League titles and be as influential as some of the best players who have worn the Madrid shirt in the past.”
