Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr. has revealed that he offered responsibility of the penalty won by his side against Manchester City on Tuesday to teammate Federico Valverde.
The Uruguayan, however, turned the gesture down.
Wide-man Vinícius is of course fresh off a match-winning performance on the continent.
After Real Madrid made the trip to England for the return leg of their Champions League Last-16 tie with Man City, the Brazilian was responsible for both of the visitors’ goals in a 2-1 win.
His first came from the penalty spot, during the first-half.
Just a week on from Vinícius fluffing his lines from 12 yards in the tie’s opener, doubts surrounding the 25-year-old’s eligibility to step up quickly spread amongst the Real faithful at The Etihad.
As alluded to above, though, one individual who had full confidence in his teammate was Federico Valverde.
Speaking to the media post-match in Manchester on Tuesday, Vinícius admitted:
“I offered the penalty to Fede Valverde, but he said he wanted me to take it again. I thank him for the confidence.”
