Vinícius and Rodrygo surpass Bale and others in record books as Real Madrid book last-16 place in Champions League

Real Madrid pair Vinícius Jr. and Rodrygo etched their respective names ever further into the club’s history books on Wednesday night.

Carlo Ancelotti’s troops were of course back in action in Europe, welcoming Portuguese outfit Braga to the Santiago Bernabéu for a Champions League group stage clash.

Real headed into proceedings in the knowledge that an eventual victory would see them book a spot in the competition’s knockout rounds, with a perfect record of 12 points from 12.

And, when all was said and done, march on to triumph is precisely what Los Blancos managed.

This came as Brahim Díaz’s opener was added to by the aforementioned duo Vinícius Jr. and Rodrygo, en route to an eventual 3-0 result.

As alluded to above, though, the Brazilian attackers’ respective goals did not only prove significant in ensuring their side’s eventual three-point haul on Wednesday.

In addition, they guided Vinícius and Rodrygo into the history books.

As revealed by statistician Mister Chip, both Real stars tonight took their Champions League tallies to 17 goals.

This is the same number as was managed by Emilio Butragueño, and one more than club legends the likes of Gareth Bale, Luís Figo, Hugo Sánchez, Guti, and Roberto Carlos.
