Villarreal set to land Gonçalo Guedes from Wolves

The powers that be at Villarreal are inching towards closing a deal for a high-profile addition to the club’s frontline.

That’s according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has this evening provided an insight into developments behind the scenes at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

Villarreal, it is claimed, are all set to land Gonçalo Guedes from Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Attacker Guedes, for his part, spent the first half of the campaign back in his home country of Portugal, as part of a season-long loan move to Benfica.

To say that his time in Lisbon has proven to be a disappointment, however, would be putting it lightly.

All told, since last summer, Guedes has been afforded just a solitary start across all competitions in the colours of the Águias.

In turn, recent reports, pointing towards the Benfica brass preparing to terminate the 27-year-old’s terms with the club early, have come as little surprise.

Guedes, though, won’t be back at parent club Wolves for long.

This comes with La Liga outfit Villarreal ‘closing on a deal’ to bring the ex-Valencia standout back to Spain for the remainder of the term.

As per the aforementioned Fabrizio Romano, the ‘final details’ of the arrangement are currently being put in place by Wolves and Villarreal, ahead of Guedes undergoing a medical with the latter at some point over the coming days.
