An update on Villarreal defender Juan Foyth has been provided today, amid reports about the player suffering a cruciate ligament injury.
According to Marca, the centre back will be out for two months with a knee injury. The Argentine, who recently returned to the pitch after half a year sidelined, will now miss the beginning of the new season.
Foyth injured his left knee a few days after his return, however despite this setback the outcome is still positive as there were initial fears that he sustained a more severe injury.
The 26-year-old left the field during the recent friendly match against Nottingham Forest after a heavy challenge. Furthermore, there were initial fears that he had ruptured his cruciate ligament, but this was not the case and the player is now expected to be out for around two months with a knee injury.
Foyth had picked up a shoulder injury last December, which subsequently required surgery. If the player didn’t suffer any further setbacks, Villarreal thought that they would have one of their key players back ahead of the new season.
However, this latest setback has complicated the matter and the defender may not return until October.
