Villarreal boss Marcelino to miss final game of season, and first two of next

Villarreal have on Wednesday been dealt a considerable blow on the personnel front.

This comes amid confirmation that head coach Marcelino has been hit with a three-game ban.

Marcelino was for his part shown his latest yellow card over the weekend, en route to Villarreal’s comeback draw with La Liga champions Real Madrid.

His 5th of the campaign, the Spaniard was therefore immediately ruled out of the Yellow Submarine’s final outing of the term, at Osasuna.

From here, though, things only got worse for Marcelino.

As per the referee’s report (cited by Mundo Deportivo):

“Coach Garcia Toral Marcelino was sent off for the following reason: Once I was heading to the referee’s locker room, he addressed me with the following terms: ‘You will be proud’, doing it repeatedly.”

As much culminated in a red card, and added two-game ban.

This in turn means that Marcelino will not be on the touchline for either the last of his side’s fixtures in 2023/24, or the first two of 2024/25.
