Footage stemming from Real Madrid’s meeting with Elche on Sunday has sparked widespread chatter across the club’s fanbase a day on.
This comes amid mounting concerns when it comes to the commitment of Los Blancos’ players to the cause under Xabi Alonso.
Real are of course fresh off another disappointing result, held to a 2-2 draw by newly-promoted Elche.
En route to as much, a number of the capital outfit’s most high-profile stars badly struggled, amid an all-round underwhelming display.
It is what has been highlighted as a lack of effort, though, which has set alarm bells sounding in the aftermath of the Alicante clash.
On the same day that Vinícius Jr’s problems with manager Xabi Alonso have been aired out, Federico Valverde (and to a lesser extent Eduardo Camavinga) has also been accused of throwing in the towel.
So long regarded as ‘Mr. Reliable’, and commitment personified on the pitch, the Uruguayan has been targeted for his attempt (or rather lack thereof) to stop a counter-attack en route to Elche retaking the lead on Sunday night.
Footage of the sequence in question is showcased below, as Valverde, still fresh after being introduced off the bench, can be seen being outrun by the referee:
