‘Unnecessary’: Thibaut Courtois critical of Real Madrid teammates after Liverpool

Real Madrid star Thibaut Courtois was quick to highlight one area of his side’s game which requires improvement in the aftermath of their trip to Liverpool on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media in the game’s aftermath, the Belgian international explained:

“Some of the fouls we commit are unnecessary.”

Courtois’ comments come after Real Madrid were guilty of giving away a number of free-kicks in dangerous areas at Anfield.

One such foul on the part of Jude Bellingham culminated in Alexis Mac Allister being picked out to net the game’s only goal on the hour mark.

This is not the first time that Real Madrid have been accused of a lack of discipline when it matters most over recent seasons.

Post-match frustrations aside, Thibaut Courtois enjoyed a brilliant individual display on Merseyside on Tuesday.

The former Chelsea man conjured up a whole host of top-class saves over the course of the 90 minutes, the leading factor in the visitors not being condemned to the wrong side of what could have been an embarrassing final scoreline.
