Unai Emery is the favourite to become the next Newcastle United manager, according to The Athletic.
It is believed Newcastle would have to pay Villarreal around €6 million in compensation for Emery. Negotiations are ongoing, however, no agreement is in place yet.
His contract with the Europa League winners runs until the summer of 2023.
Steve Bruce was sacked at St James’ Park 13 days after the Saudi Arabia-backed takeover of the club last month.
