UEFA accept Barcelona’s Champions League request

European football’s organising body, UEFA, have accepted a request placed before them by La Liga champions Barcelona this week.

That’s according to Tot Costa, who point towards as much as having come with regards to the club’s upcoming Champions League opener.

Barcelona are primed to kick their European campaign for 2025/26 into gear next month.

The hope, initially, was that the Spotify Camp Nou renovations would be completed in time for the Blaugrana’s first home fixture in the competition to be played at their beloved ground.

With such an outcome now beginning to look increasingly unlikely, however, Joan Laporta and co. earlier this week sent a message the way of UEFA.

As much saw Barca request to play their first Champions League outing of the season away from home.

And as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media on Friday is anything to go by, then this plan appears to be agreeable to UEFA.

As per the aforementioned Tot Costa:

‘UEFA accepts that Barça plays the first matchday of the Champions League away from home. With this, the club will gain time to have the stadium ready where it will play as the home team. It remains to be seen whether it will be the Camp Nou or Montjuïc.’
