Two international managers hail Barcelona star

A member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has this weekend come in for fresh praise.

The player in question? Pedri.

Pedri was for his part back in action on Saturday night, afforded a starting berth in Spain’s World Cup qualifying fixture against Georgia.

And the 22-year-old, amid what has been a brilliant individual start to the campaign, only continued to dazzle across the 90 minutes.

Controlling proceedings from his berth in the middle of the park, Pedri played a vital role in an eventual 2-0 La Roja triumph.

And as alluded to above, post-match, the former Las Palmas talent has come in for a deserved fresh round of praise.

Spain boss Luis de la Fuente, for one, had the following to say on Pedri’s form:

“He’s so good that he could play in multiple positions, but he gives us alternatives. What’s clear is that wherever he plays, he gives us so much. He’s one of the best players in the world.

“Does Pedri do anything wrong? He brings composure and control. He’s capable of bringing out the best in his teammates, but he also has players around him who help him reach his best. He’s an exceptional footballer.”

And De la Fuente was soon joined in his commendation by Georgia counterpart Willy Sagnol:

“Pedri provides solutions on the pitch: where to position himself, how to give options to teammates. He represents all of Spanish football. That’s why they just keep producing! They had six or seven absentees, and we didn’t notice any difference.”

“If you look at Pedri, he’s so light he could fly away if the wind blows, but he’s one of the best midfielders in the world because he’s so smart and always puts the team first.”
