A leading member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has on Thursday received the backing of fellow countryman Neymar Jr.
The player in question? Rodrygo.
The name of frontman Rodrygo has of course positioned itself front and centre in the media chatter in Spain over the course of the last 24 hours.
This comes after the Brazilian international was left off the 30-man shortlist for the next Ballon d’Or award.
Whilst teammates Dani Carvajal, Antonio Rüdiger, Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham, Vinícius Jr, Kylian Mbappé and even the retired Toni Kroos were all named as candidates for the ‘Golden Ball’, Rodrygo was an altogether noteworthy snub.
Many of a Real Madrid persuasion have since made clear their disillusionment with as much, a sentiment shared by the 23-year-old himself on social media:
And, as alluded to above, a short time ago, Rodrygo received the backing of a one-time contender to be named world football’s very best player, too.
In his own post on Instagram, ex-Barcelona standout Neymar Jr. unveiled a photo of his fellow countryman, accompanied by the caption:
“Minimum top 5 in the world.”
