‘Too many changes’ – Joan Laporta’s response to Xavi questioning Barcelona sacking

A fresh insight into the reasoning provided to dismissed Barcelona head coach Xavi for his firing has today been forthcoming.

The info comes courtesy of Mundo Deportivo, and reiterates that as much was communicated to the 44-year-old during a meeting late last week.

Xavi’s dismissal from his berth on the touchline in Catalunya’s capital was of course made official last Friday.

This came with a view to Hansi Flick – announced as the new Barca boss earlier today – being installed in place of the Spaniard.

Xavi was made aware of his impending exit during a sit-down with all of president Joan Laporta, vice-president Rafa Yuste, and sporting director Deco.

After overseeing Friday’s morning training session at The Ciutat Esportiva, the ex-midfielder was called into a private room by the Barcelona brass.

From here, a short and cordial exchange took place, during which it was explained to Xavi that Sunday’s meeting with Sevilla would be his last.

After questioning Laporta and co. on precisely why, the tactician was bluntly informed that, based on his comments during the now infamous pre-Almería press conference, Xavi made clear to the board that:

‘You do not trust your squad and want to make too many changes.’
