The latest comments laid out by Brazil and Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr. have piqued attentions across the world of football on Monday.
As much comes after the 23-year-old provided an insight into the effect of the racism aimed in his direction by opposing fans on his mental wellbeing.
Vinícius took his place in front of the media a short time ago, as part of a press conference in anticipation of Brazil’s friendly meeting with Spain on Tuesday night.
With the subject of racism in La Liga stadiums having of course returned to the forefront of the headlines over the course of recent months, the subject of the vile abuse which he has been subjected to in Spain was in turn put to Vinícius.
And, whilst issuing his response, the gifted winger could not help but break down in tears.
Going as far as to admit that he has considered giving up the game altogether, an emotional Vinícius explained:
“I just want to play football. I’ve thought about quitting….
“I’m sorry. I just want to play football, do everything for my club and my family, never see black people suffering.
“I’ve been watching this (racism) happen for a long time, and I feel sadder and sadder, I’m less and less willing to play. No one is supporting me.”
