Former Barcelona star Thierry Henry has admitted that he has been left feeling sorry for Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso across the season to date.
This comes amid the suggestion that Los Blancos’ players are as much to blame for the club’s failures this season as their new manager.
Speaking as part of his punditry role for CBS Sports this week, Henry was asked for his take on the mounting pressure on the shoulders of Alonso at present.
And the Frenchman went on to explain:
“I feel sorry for Xabi Alonso, because you could see what he was able to do with Leverkusen. That’s when he was able to coach a team that was willing to listen to what he wanted to do.”
Henry’s comments of course come fresh off another evening to forget for Real Madrid as a collective on Wednesday.
After welcoming Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to Spain’s capital for a Champions League showdown, the capital outfit were condemned to the wrong side of a 2-1 result.
This means back-to-back defeats for Real Madrid in all competitions, following a weekend downing at the hands of Celta Vigo in La Liga.
