‘They don’t understand’ – Atlético Madrid star responds to Julián Alvarez’s ‘The Best’ omission

Atlético Madrid star Nico González has moved to make clear his bemusement with the absence of teammate Julián Alvarez from the list of nominees for FIFA’s ‘The Best’ award.

The 11-man shortlist of candidates to be named ‘The Best’ for 2025 was of course unveiled on Thursday.

Frontman Alvarez, however, despite a stellar debut campaign in Spain’s capital, was nowhere to be seen.

And as alluded to above, quick to make public his stark disagreement with as much was fellow Atléti star and compatriot Nico González.

Taking to social media in the early hours of Friday, attacker Nico unveiled a photo of he and Alvarez, accompanied by the caption:

‘They clearly don’t understand anything’

Whilst Alvarez was left disappointed by his absence from FIFA’s shortlist to be named the game’s standout performer for the last year, a quartet of other La Liga stars did secure nominations.

These players come in the form of Pedri, Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Kylian Mbappé.
