The one position Barcelona could reinforce in January

The board at La Liga giants Barcelona could sanction a move for an addition to Hansi Flick’s squad during the winter transfer window.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have confirmed that the Blaugrana are currently keeping a close eye on the market for reinforcements in one position: centre-back.

Barca are of course still reeling from the summer exit of a leading member of the club’s backline, in Iñigo Martínez.

After playing a starring role for the Catalans en route to a domestic treble last season, the Spaniard’s leadership and veteran presence have been sorely missed over the early weeks of the new term.

As of yet, a first-choice partner for Pau Cubarsí is yet to emerge from the group of Ronald Araújo, Andreas Christensen and Eric García.

And with as much in mind, Barcelona could well dip into the market following the turn of the year.

As per MD, if finances allow, Deco and co. are eyeing ‘a key move to bring in a quality left-footed center back who doesn’t play much for his team and who they can afford to let go in January’.
