An insight into the reasoning behind Barcelona star Marc-André ter Stegen’s refusal to leave the club this summer has on Wednesday been provided.
The info comes courtesy of ESPN, and points towards the reasons being threefold.
The subject of goalkeeper Ter Stegen’s future in Catalunya’s capital has of course returned to the forefront of the headlines in Spain across the day to date.
This comes after Barcelona announced the signing of a new shot-stopper, in Espanyol standout Joan García.
And yet, despite the prospect of potentially being relegated to third-choice between the posts in Hansi Flick’s squad, Ter Stegen remains adamant that he will be going nowhere this summer.
So, why is the German so dead set on remaining a Barcelona player?
As alluded to above, an insight into as much has today been provided, by the reliable Samuel Marsden of ESPN.
A trio of reasons for Ter Stegen’s stance are highlighted, as follows:
- ‘Ter Stegen believes he can still deliver as Barça’s No. 1 after his injury and that there is no better place to be ahead of the World Cup.’
- ‘He is happy in the city and close to his two children after separating from his long-term partner. He recently moved into a new home and some sort of stability right now is important for him and his family.’
- ‘He has a contract until 2028 and paying it off to allow him to leave for free may be out of Barça’s price range.’
