‘Stuff to talk about…’ Antonio Rüdiger reveals Real Madrid won’t celebrate CL advancement

Real Madrid star Antonio Rüdiger has admitted that he and his teammates do not intend to celebrate keeping the club’s European adventure for the season alive.

This comes owing to the level of their latest display.

Real, of course, marked their return to action late last night, welcoming German outfit RB Leipzig to Spain’s capital for the 2nd leg of the Champions League Last-16 tie between the clubs.

When all was said and done, Los Blancos battled their way to a 1-1 draw, in the process booking a spot in the competition’s quarter-finals by way of a 2-1 aggregate scoreline.

And yet, in the aftermath of Wednesday’s clash, Carlo Ancelotti’s troops have been subjected to widespread criticism.

As much comes with Real, in truth, having been lucky to avoid what would have come as a shock defeat at the hands of Leipzig.

The capital giants looked some way short of their brilliant best over the course of both legs, with Marco Rose’s underdogs having carved out more than enough presentable opportunities to at the very least take the tie to extra-time.

And, post-match, the aforementioned Antonio Rüdiger pointed towards precisely as much as reason for he and his teammates to have little to no reason to celebrate advancing to the Champions League’s last eight:

“No, we don’t celebrate this,” the German began, during an interview with CBS Sports. “We don’t celebrate this because it was not a good performance. At the end of the day we are through, but there is stuff to talk about.”
