Luis Rubiales, president of the Spanish FA, has published a video in which he apologises for kissing Spain player Jenni Hermoso as the Spain players were being presented with their World Cup winning medals in Sydney on Sunday.
In the video, released by the Spanish FA, Rubiales said, in words reported by Mundo Deportivo, “We are facing a historic event, in one of the happiest days of Spanish football, but there is something that I have to regret. I have certainly made a mistake, I have to admit that. What happened spontaneously happened”.
Rubiales added: “Here (within the national team) it (the controversy) was not understood because we saw it as something natural, normal… But that has not been the case outside [the camp]. If someone has felt hurt, I apologise. We have to learn from this and understand that when you occupy a position like this, as president of the Federation, you have to be more careful”.
