Spain U21 players join senior squad ahead of Euro 2020

On Wednesday, 11 U21 players joined Spain’s ‘parallel squad’, following their participation in Tuesday night’s 4-0 win over Lithuania.

No senior players featured in the friendly after captain Sergio Busquets had tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday.

Leeds centre-back Diego Llorente has also tested positive for Covid-19 and is isolating. Both Llorente and Busquets will miss Spain’s opening Euro 2020 match against Sweden on June 14.

Marc Cucurella, Álvaro Fernandez, Óscar Mingueza, Bryan Gil, Gonzalo Villar, Alex Pozo, Brahim, Martin Zubimendi, Yeremy Pino, Juan Miranda and Javi Puado are the 11 u21 players who will stay with the senior team in the event that a coronavirus outbreak does occur.

Rodrigo Moreno, Carlos Soler, Brais Mendez, Raúl Albiol, Pablo Fornals and Kepa Arrizabalaga have also joined the squad in Madrid as back-up options for manager Luis Enrique.

The Spanish squad is currently down to 22 players.
