Spain boss De la Fuente confirms Barcelona star could be forced to undergo surgery

Spanish national team head coach Luis de la Fuente has admitted that a member of the midfield ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona could soon be forced under the knife once more.

The player in question? Gavi.

Youngster Gavi for his part set alarm bells sounding across Catalunya’s capital late last month.

This came after word was forthcoming that the 21-year-old had picked up an injury problem in the same knee in which he previously tore the ACL.

Ensuing rumours have varied widely when it comes to the extent of the issue, as well as how long Gavi is likely to be sidelined.

Over recent days, a series of reports surfaced, assuring that, despite prior claims to the contrary, Barcelona were not taking into consideration a fresh surgical procedure for their midfield starlet.

As alluded to above, though, over the last 24 hours, Luis de la Fuente has suggested otherwise…

Speaking during an appearance on El Larguero, Spain’s headmaster explained:

“I spoke with Gavi this morning: he is sad and awaiting a possible meniscus surgery. He is a very strong person. I encouraged him because these are the situations where one comes out stronger.”
