Sources close to Real Madrid star Federico Valverde have been left less than impressed by the recent media chatter surrounding his name.
That’s according to The Athletic, who have on Thursday provided an insight into the situation.
The name of midfielder Valverde has of course proven a prominent one in the headlines across Spain over recent days.
This comes owing to developments during Real Madrid’s Champions League victory over Kairat.
After Valverde was dropped to the bench for the fixture following a hugely disappointing showing in the Madrid Derby, he was accused of looking disinterested and lazy whilst lining up on the touchline.
From here, it was even suggested by some outlets that Valverde had had something of a falling out with head coach Xabi Alonso, after refusing to play in a right-back role.
Such chatter forced the 27-year-old to take to his official social media platforms on Wednesday, to shut down the sudden controversy.
And as alluded to above, the situation as a whole has left something of a sour taste in the mouths of those closest to the player.
As per a report from The Athletic:
‘Sources close to Valverde say they are surprised by the controversy about his omission and touchline behaviour, as it was planned that he would be rested for the Kairat match. They added it was not true that he refused to warm up on the night. Those same sources are angry because they believe a false image of the Uruguayan is being presented. They say he has never argued with Alonso or asked the coach to play him in a specific position.’
