Sevilla dealt fresh injury blow ahead of Real Madrid meeting

La Liga outfit Sevilla have been dealt a considerable blow on the personnel front, ahead of the club’s upcoming clash with Real Madrid.

This comes amid confirmation that defender Marcos Acuña has picked up an injury.

Argentine international Acuña, for his part, was forced into a premature departure from Sevilla’s most recent outing, away to Valencia.

After looking in discomfort late in the first-half of proceedings, the 32-year-old failed to emerge from the dressing room following the interval at the Mestalla.

Post-match, it was revealed that Acuña was struggling with a thigh issue, the extent of which was yet to be established.

As alluded to above, though, today, a fresh insight into the situation has been provided.

And it will no doubt come as a blow to all associated with Sevilla.

As per an official statement released across the Nervionenses’ website and social media platforms:

“Marcos Acuña, who had to retire due to physical problems last Saturday at Mestalla at half-time, suffers a myofascial injury to the rectus femoris of the left thigh, according to Sevilla FC medical services. The player is at the expense of his evolution.”

Though no specific timeline has been provided for Acuña’s return, he is certain to miss out this weekend, when Quique’s troops make the daunting trip to the Santiago Bernabéu.
