Sevilla captain Navas thinks Real Madrid’s winner should have been ruled out

Sevilla star Jesús Navas has tonight revealed his opinion that the winning goal scored against his side by Real Madrid should not have stood.

Sevilla, of course, marked their return to action a short time ago.

In the midst of a timely upturn in form, Quique’s troops made the trip to Spain’s capital, for a daunting showdown with La Liga table-toppers Real Madrid.

And yet, with a full 80 minutes on the clock at the Santiago Bernabéu, the Nervionenses looked on their way to what would have marked a hugely credible share of the spoils.

This came amid a stout defensive display, which left their star-studded hosts frustrated in their search for an opener.

Just when it looked as though Real Madrid had run out of ideas, though, substitute Luka Modrić conjured up a moment of magic, to break Sevilla hearts.

The Croatian rattled home a wonderful strike from the edge of the penalty area, leaving Ørjan Nyland with no chance.

As alluded to above, however, one individual of the opinion that Real’s winner should have been ruled out, comes in the form of Jesús Navas.

Speaking to the media post-match at the Bernabéu, Sevilla skipper Navas was drawn on his side’s disappointing defeat.

And the Spaniard made use of the opportunity to reveal his take that, in the direct lead-up to Modrić’s goal, Antonio Rüdiger should have been flagged for offside.

“That action was offside,” Navas told DAZN, as cited by Mundo Deportivo.

As much was in fact checked by the VAR team on the night, but it was ultimately decided that Rüdiger had not directly interfered with play.
