Sergio Ramos reveals whether he would celebrate a goal vs Real Madrid: ‘It will be emotional’

Sevilla star Sergio Ramos has this afternoon provided an insight into his feelings surrounding the club’s upcoming meeting with Real Madrid.

Sevilla will mark their return to La Liga action on Sunday, when Quique’s troops make the trip to Spain’s capital, for a daunting showdown with top-of-the-table Real.

The matchup will mark a particularly special one for the aforementioned Sergio Ramos, after the defender spent a full 16 years of his legendary career on the books at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The now-37-year-old linked up with Los Blancos at just 19 years of age, ultimately going on to secure the captain’s armband, en route to four Champions League crowns, five La Liga titles, and much, much more.

Since bringing his time in Madrid to a close back in the summer of 2021, Ramos is yet to return to his former stomping grounds as an opposing player.

This, however, is all set to change this coming weekend.

Speaking in an interview with DAZN on Wednesday, the subject of the emotions surrounding his Real reunion, in turn, was inevitably put to Spain’s all-time record cap holder.

And Ramos was not shy in admitting that the occasion is indeed set to prove an ’emotional’ one:

“I’m going to feel at home because I’ve spent many years there, with the most important moments of my career,” he began, as cited by Marca. “I have wonderful memories of the fans, of my teammates. It will be a unique and emotional moment.

“Real Madrid is the favorite to win everything every year,” Ramos continued. “They are going through a good moment, they are leaders and they have players of extraordinary quality. We know very well the terrain we are going to tread and we will try to play a good game there.”

Finally, drawn on whether or not he intends to celebrate, in the case of finding the net against his former club, the Sevilla veteran explained:

“I have a lot of respect for the fans and all of Real Madrid and if I score, I won’t celebrate it, but if I’m lucky enough to do so and that goal is enough for us to win, I’ll be delighted because those three points will come in very handy for us.”
