According to Goal via TV3, Rennes have decided against a loan deal for French defender Samuel Umtiti.
The Barcelona player’s arrival at the French club was subject to Umtiti (28) passing a medical, but the centre-back failed the medical, resulting in Rennes deciding against taking the player.
Umtiti’s departure is one of the main priorities for Barça, with Xavi having told him a few weeks ago that he will not be counting on him.
With Rennes deciding against the move, Barça’s plans to get rid of Umtiti are back to square one. The option of terminating his contract would also have a strong financial impact on the Catalan club, as he would have to be paid for the four years he still has left on his contract after the renewal he signed earlier this year.
