On Saturday, at a press conference ahead of the Nations League final, a journalist asked Rodri if he could see himself winning the Ballon d’Or, but there were reactions of surprise among the Spaniards in attendance.
This season the Spanish midfielder has won the Champions League, the Premier League and the FA Cup. On Sunday night, he lifted the Nations League with Spain after La Roja beat Croatia on penalties. He scored the goal that helped City win their first Champions League, was voted Champions League Player of the Season and was named Man of the Match in the final against Inter Milan in Istanbul.
After celebrating the win with the City players in Ibiza and Manchester, the 26-year-old joined the La Roja squad going to the Netherlands and was voted the best player in the Nations League after his performances in the semi-final and final.
He’s a key player for Pep Guardiola at City and will be pivotal for a young Spain side going forward, but despite a remarkable season, Rodri is unlikely to win the Ballon d’Or.
