Robert Lewandowski’s gesture towards Lamine Yamal “unacceptable”

FC Barcelona came away with three points as they beat Deportivo Alavés at home to move within four points of top spot on Sunday. The Catalan side came from a goal down to secure a 2-1 win thanks to a brace from striker Robert Lewandowski. However, the Polish striker’s goals were not the main talking point after the game.

Instead, Lewandowski has been widely condemned by those associated with the club for his gesture towards up-and-coming star Lamine Yamal. As reported by AS, Lewandowski snubbed the 16-year-old as he went in for a handshake following a previous incident in which the 35-year-old was unhappy with the ball from Yamal. Such a gesture has, however, unsurprisingly led to criticism. Ex-Barcelona player Gerard López deemed his behaviour as “unacceptable,” while Dani Garrido labelled it as “shameful.”

Any indecent gesture made towards a La Masia player is always going to lead to condemnation, and it waits to be seen whether Lewandowski will publically come out and apologise or whether the matter will be dealt with internally. Certainly, manager Xavi will wish to avoid any sort of rupture in the dressing room as the team appears to be in high spirits after years of turmoil.
