Revealed: How long Barcelona pair Pedri & Frenkie de Jong will be sidelined

An insight into the injury recovery timelines facing Barcelona pair Pedri and Frenkie de Jong has come to the fore on Monday.

And the news will come as a heavy blow to all associated with Barcelona.

Both Pedri, and De Jong, of course set alarm bells ringing back in Catalunya’s capital late last night.

As much came after the midfield duo were forced into respective first-half departures from Barca’s La Liga meeting with Athletic Club.

En route to a goalless stalemate at San Mamés, De Jong lasted just 25 minutes before succumbing to an ankle problem, whilst Pedri made it to the stroke of the interval before departing in a flood of tears, clutching his thigh.

After boss Xavi made clear on Sunday night that the situation of both players looked ‘serious’, Barcelona released a statement a short time ago, confirming the extent of their engine room duo’s injuries:

‘Frenkie de Jong has a lateral ligament sprain in his right ankle.’

‘Pedri has a right quadriceps injury.’

Just what does this mean for the key pair when it comes to their respective returns to the pitch, though?

An insight into precisely that was forthcoming a short time ago, and points towards both players facing up to lengthy spells on the treatment table.

As per Javier Miguel of Diario AS, De Jong will be unavailable for the coming four weeks, and Pedri for five to six.
