Referee appointment for Spain vs Portugal confirmed

The referee chosen to take charge of the upcoming showdown between Spain and Portugal has on Saturday evening been confirmed.

The official primed to oversee proceedings at Dallas Stadium? Anthony Taylor.

The headline fixture of the Round-of-16 at the World Cup is of course scheduled for Monday night. The clash in question will see European heavyweights Spain and Portugal lock horns for a place in the competition’s quarter-finals.

The winners will no doubt fancy their chances of marching all the way to the finale later this month, with the likes of Lamine Yamal, Cristiano Ronaldo and Pedri set to play leading roles.

And as alluded to above, on Saturday, these stars have been made aware of the referee who will oversee their competitive efforts in 48 hours’ time.

As per a statement across the social media platforms of the Spanish national team:

‘Englishman Anthony Taylor will be in charge of officiating the Spanish national team’s round of 16 match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.’
