La Liga outfit Real Sociedad have on Sunday announced a heavy blow on the personnel front.
This comes amid confirmation that Álvaro Odriozola has been condemned to a long-term spell on the sidelines.
Defender Odriozola was for his part introduced off the bench on Saturday, as Real Sociedad locked horns with Real Oviedo in a La Liga clash.
En route to an eventual 3-3 draw between the clubs, however, the 30-year-old lasted just a minute, before pulling up in evident pain.
From here, Odriozola was quickly hauled off, amid fears of a serious knee injury.
And following a round of medical tests carried out a day later, the worst fears of club and player alike have been confirmed.
As per a statement across Real Sociedad’s website and social media platforms:
‘Álvaro Odriozola medical update: Tests carried out at Policlínica Gipuzkoa by Real Sociedad’s medical team have confirmed that the player has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. The date for surgery will be determined in the coming days.
‘You’ll come back stronger than ever. Always with you, through highs and lows.’
