Real Sociedad stand firm over Mikel Merino price tag

Negotiations over the future of Mikel Merino have been in the works for several weeks now, with the Real Sociedad man seemingly on the verge of a move to the Premier League.

The 28-year-old is currently the subject of interest from Arsenal, who face a tough task to meet the club’s demands for a transfer.

As per COPE, Real Sociedad are standing firm on their €40 million price tag, while Arsenal’s initial €30 million offer was rejected.

The midfielder has a €65 million release clause, but La Real are evidently willing to work with Arsenal to make a deal happen and allow a sale to go through.

Real Sociedad even kept Merino out of their squad for their opening La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano, as talks go on in the background regarding the player’s future.

Merino has previously spoken about his desire to again play Premier League football, a factor which arose when talks began regarding his contract renewal at Anoeta.

Negotiations around the move are expected to finish in a matter of days, so we won’t have long to wait to see if the 28-year-old will be lining up in North London in the near future.
