La Liga giants Real Madrid are ready to kick their efforts to land a leading summer transfer target up a gear over the weeks ahead.
That’s according to The Athletic, who point towards Álvaro Carreras as the player in question.
The name of Spaniard Carreras has of course taken its place centre stage in the media headlines in his home country over recent weeks.
This comes after widespread confirmation was forthcoming that new Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso had identified the 22-year-old as the perfect addition to his squad for next season.
An agreement with Benfica, in turn, was not expected to be long in being found.
To date, no such accord has been forthcoming, however, as the Portuguese heavyweights stand firm in their valuation of Carreras.
But as alluded to above, over the next couple of weeks, the transfer is expected to be positioned firmly back on track.
As per a report from The Athletic, after Benfica were sent packing from the FIFA Club World Cup:
‘Madrid are expected to try to finalise Carreras’ signing in July. The expectation is that the deal will be sped up again in the coming weeks.’
