Real Madrid summer signing breaks teammate’s club record vs Marseille

A member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has on Tuesday secured for himself a piece of club history.

The player in question? Franco Mastantuono.

Real Madrid are of course primed to return to action in short order.

Ahead of their opening fixture of the new Champions League season, Los Blancos have made the trip to France, for a meeting with Marseille.

Xabi Alonso has opted for several changes to his XI for the evening, after a weekend victory over Real Sociedad.

One such player stepping back in to the visitors’ line-up is the aforementioned Franco Mastantuono, primed to make his Champions League debut.

And as alluded to above, owing to as much, the young Argentine has etched his name into the history books.

As revealed by statisticians Opta:

‘Franco Mastantuono has become the youngest player to start a UEFA Champions League match for Real Madrid, at just 18 years and 33 days old, beating Endrick’s previous record set in November 2024 at 18 years and 73 days.’
