Real Madrid star will not play at Spanish Super Cup despite squad inclusion

A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid will play no part in the club’s journey at the upcoming Spanish Super Cup.

The player in question? Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Xabi Alonso’s travelling squad bound for Saudi Arabia for the annual Supercopa was of course unveiled on Tuesday.

And to the surprise of the masses, the aforementioned Alexander-Arnold was included front and centre.

Right-back Trent was for his part condemned to a lengthy spell on the sidelines last month, owing to a thigh injury.

After it was reported that he was likely to miss at least two months with the problem, the former Liverpool man’s call-up to face Atlético on Thursday therefore turned heads across the Spanish football landscape.

Those of a Real Madrid persuasion eager to see Alexander-Arnold back on the pitch as soon as this week, though, need not get their hopes up.

As per a report from Blancos insider Melchor Ruiz of COPE:

‘Alexander-Arnold has entered the squad for the first time after the injury, although without chances of playing in the Super Cup.’
