Real Madrid star undergoes successful surgery

An up-and-coming member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid on Tuesday morning underwent successful surgery.

That’s according to Marca, who point towards Joan Martínez as the player in question.

Stopper Martínez was for his part dealt nothing short of a hammer blow earlier this month.

Fresh off breaking into the first-team picture at Real Madrid at just 16 years of age during the summer, the Spaniard was ruled out for what is likely to be the entirety of the campaign.

The latest victim of what is beginning to look like a curse in Madrid, Joan, after being forced out of training, was diagnosed with a torn ACL.

The medical team at Valdebebas had since bided their time, waiting for the right moment to authorise the talented stopper’s surgical procedure.

And, as alluded to above, on Tuesday, precisely as much was confirmed.

As per a report from Marca:

‘Joan Martínez has undergone a successful operation on the torn cruciate ligament in his left knee that he suffered on August 9 during a training session with the first team. This morning, the promising 17-year-old centre-back underwent surgery by Dr. Manuel Leyes.’
